Johnny William
Wide Receiver
Class of 2016
Pike High School
Exposures: Hudl film, game vs. Lawrence Central (in-person)
Strengths: Explosive, quick, and loose-hipped wideout with potential to excel in college football. Is a big impact player for the Red Devils and showed throughout the season that he can take over a game. Has outstanding explosiveness, initial separation vs. press, and a quick first step with no false movement. Has legitimate breakaway speed and deep speed/acceleration, and can split the seam when he aligns in the slot. Can work on his own over the middle of the field. Exhibits strong skills as a route runner – can sell with his head and shoulders, and is quick to get into and out of his breaks. Is a willing blocker, playing with a wide base and getting good inside hand placement. Exhibits good hands – adjusts back to the ball on inaccurate passes. Excels after the catch; can make defenders miss and showed that he can push a pile and finish forward on contact. Flashes high effort and faces top competition.
Weaknesses: Should add more bulk to his frame before/during his junior season, and has time to do so Could exhibit patience and vision to follow blocks when he gets out in space after the catch, especially as a return man.
Summary: Johnny is an impact player on Pike’s offense. He has a high ceiling and should only get better in the future. I think his best fit in college would be as a wingback/slot receiver in a spread scheme. His explosiveness, deep speed, and ability to work on his own over the middle of the field will be assets to any program.
