YORKTOWN — Christopher “Chris” Wilson Jr., a 17-year-old senior at Yorktown High School and committed football prospect, was shot and killed early Monday morning in Muncie.

Muncie police were dispatched at 2:59 a.m. to the 1400 block of East Cromer Avenue, where Wilson was found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Muncie Police Department is leading the investigation. No suspect or motive had been announced as of Monday.

Wilson was a member of the Yorktown Tigers football program and had committed to West Virginia University in June after receiving multiple Division I offers. The 6-foot-5 defensive end had developed into one of the state’s top prospects in the Class of 2027.

Yorktown Community Schools confirmed Wilson’s death in a message sent to families Monday. In a letter to students and families, Yorktown High School principal Stacey Brewer described Wilson as “a valued member of our school, our football team, and our community.”

The school noted that Yorktown police confirmed there was no threat to students or the school. Because students were on fall break, families were encouraged to speak with their children about the news. Counselors will be available when students return.

Yorktown last played Friday, defeating Greenfield-Central 38-0.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Muncie Police Department detective division at 765-747-4867.

Indiana Preps extends its condolences to Chris Wilson’s family, teammates, coaches, classmates, and the entire Yorktown community.
