Kasmir Hicks, a standout athlete from Decatur Central High School, has announced his verbal commitment to play football at Indiana University. The 6-foot, 180-pound junior, recognized as Indiana’s top-ranked prospect in the Class of 2026 by On3 Sports, chose the Hoosiers over offers from several prominent programs, including Cincinnati, Louisville, Missouri, and Vanderbilt .

Hicks has been a dynamic force on both sides of the ball for Decatur Central. During his junior season, he recorded 54 receptions for 945 yards and 13 touchdowns as a wide receiver. In the backfield, he added 479 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 46 carries. Defensively, Hicks tallied 32 tackles, five interceptions—two of which he returned for touchdowns—two forced fumbles, and two pass breakups . His special teams contributions were equally impressive, with seven kickoff returns for 334 yards and two touchdowns.

Hicks played a pivotal role in leading Decatur Central to its first Class 5A state championship in 2024, showcasing his versatility and playmaking abilities throughout the season .

In committing to Indiana, Hicks cited the program’s culture and coaching staff as significant factors in his decision. “Home was just IU,” Hicks said. “It was just different. It wasn’t really because it was close, it was just from being around campus and being around the coaching staff. They were different from every other school. I definitely like coach Cig (Curt Cignetti) and what he has going. I went there and it felt different from everywhere else. I love (cornerbacks coach Rod Ojong) too. It just felt like home” .

Hicks becomes the fourth commitment in Indiana’s 2026 recruiting class, joining linebacker Henry Ohlinger, offensive lineman Sam Simpson, and defensive tackle Rodney White .

With his commitment, Hicks is poised to bring his exceptional talent and versatility to the Hoosiers, contributing to the program’s future success.
