One of the top softball players in Central Indiana has cemented her college decision and has her eyes set on set on making a huge postseason run this season.
Triton Central standout Brylie Couch has played softball for as long as she can remember, getting her start in the New Palestine rec league before being asked to play on the Indiana Astros and then maturing and improving to present day with the Triton Central Tigers.
A season ago, Couch hit .437 with 25 RBIs and 31 runs scored, and was dominant inside the circle, posting a 2.58 ERA with 74 strikeouts in just over 50 innings pitched.
“Individually, I felt that I grew as a teammate. I learned to not only worry about how everyone was doing, but also how they looked out on the field and how well they were getting ready for big games. If I got the win in the circle, it was because of my team. They helped me in every aspect. I can’t control the entire by myself. A pitcher cannot win or lose a game for the team, and that is what stood out to me last year. We were all in together. It wasn’t a one man show, but it was a team who worked their butts off to make it to the postseason and fought together and for each other,” Couch told Indiana Preps.
This season, Couch has brought the same mindset to the diamond and is looking to help the Tigers overcome an early season defeat to New Palestine and make a run.
“I think it has started pretty well. Our first game is always against a very good team, and this year, it happened to be against New Pal. Although we lost, we gained so much knowledge on what we need to do to get back to practice and work on,” she said.
While some may be surprised with her success, Couch is anything but, pointing to all the work she has done on and off the diamond.
“I wouldn’t say I am surprised with my success because I have been working pretty much every day of the week for years now to get to where I am. I wouldn’t say I am surprised, but I am blessed to be where I am. You cannot be the best if you don’t train like the best and put and leave everything in God’s hands,” Couch said.
The training has paid off nicely, as Couch is committed to Trine University once her days in Fairland are over.
“The thing that drew me to Trine was the atmosphere. Knowing I am going to be playing for a team that wins together is what I knew I wanted my team to feel like. The year prior to my commitment, they had won the Division 3 national championship, so that was a bonus. Being committed has been the biggest relief of my whole softball career, and knowing that I am going to the next level with a team that will and has already welcomed me with open arms is the best feeling in the whole world,” Couch said.
