Four teams stood tall on March 29 in Gainbridge Fieldhouse to cap off another historic IHSAA boys’ basketball season. Orleans, Manchester, South Bend Saint Joseph and Jeffersonville each took home wins in the closest-contested day of matchups in state championship history—with a combined margin of victory of just 18 points between the four games.

Before getting to the top performers from the day, here is an update on the new win streaks as the Red Devils snapped Fishers’ 43-game streak:

  1. Jeffersonville: 18 wins
  2. South Bend Saint Joseph: 11 wins
  3. Manchester: 8 wins
  4. Orleans: 7 wins

Top Performers

G: Ethan Hendrix, Manchester

Stats: 21 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists

The first of two Manchester stars on the list, Hendrix scored seven points in the final period to help Manchester come back from a four-point deficit over the final minutes of the game.

G: Blake Gray, University

Stats: 20 points, 5 rebounds, 6-10 3PT

Staying in the 2A game, Gray was unconscious from deep throughout the morning to pace University in scoring. In addition to the unconscious shooting, Gray added three steals on defense while blowing by his season scoring average of 11 points.

F: Gavin Betten, Manchester

Stats: 21 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals

The best of the three 2A performers, Betten capped off his impressive career with yet another double-double — a mark he has averaged for four years straight. His 68th career double-double included five assists, three steals and even a rare three-pointer.

F: Tre Singleton, Jeffersonville

Stats: 26 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists

With his future coaching staff watching courtside, Singleton did just about everything for the Red Devils to help snap Fishers’ 43-game winning streak. The Northwestern commit shot 60% from the field while showing impressive ball handling skills while still maintaining control of the pain — both offensively and defensively.

F: Alex Dewitt, Orleans

Stats: 24 points, 7 rebounds, 71% FG

Going down to 1A to round out the list, Dewitt paced Orleans to the most efficient game in IHSAA state championship history. Doing all his work inside the paint, the big man had game highs for both points and rebounds.
