After twelve weeks of high school football — and even more weeks of practice — only eight teams remain in each class, narrowing the field to preseason favorites, perennial powerhouses, and a few surprise sectional champions.

Scoreboard Watchin

Lafayette Central Catholic secured the highest score of the week, decisively defeating North Montgomery 60-6. Senior quarterback Bobby Metzger threw for 317 yards and six touchdowns, while senior receiver Hudson Gutwein tallied 181 receiving yards with two touchdowns. Defensively, senior Ryan Delgatto dominated with an impressive seven sacks. The Knights now prepare for a regional championship faceoff against a strong Andrean team on November 15, marking their toughest matchup yet.

In an exhilarating clash, Fishers edged out Hamilton Southeastern 44-41 in a high-scoring Mudsock rivalry game, with senior quarterback Caden Hill passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns. Junior running back Ryan Thembulembu added 150 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Stanford commit JonAnthony Hall led with 194 receiving yards and three touchdowns — two receiving and one rushing. Despite a valiant effort from Hamilton Southeastern’s senior quarterback Chandler Weston, who totaled 320 passing yards and two touchdowns, and running back Azariah Wallace’s 166 rushing yards with four touchdowns, Fishers claimed the victory. This marks Fishers’ first regional championship appearance since 2017, where they will face Westfield.

Champion Check-In: Surviving Teams and Heartbreaking Losses

Of last year’s six state champions, only two — Ben Davis and Fort Wayne Snider — will miss out on the regional championships this season.

Ben Davis faced a heartbreaking defeat in the sectional five championship, despite holding a commanding 35-7 halftime lead and a 35-13 advantage entering the fourth quarter. However, Brownsburg mounted a 25-point fourth-quarter comeback to take the win. Ben Davis sophomore quarterback Joe Goss threw for 303 yards and five touchdowns, linking up with Notre Dame commit Mark Zackery IV, who had eight receptions for 177 yards and four touchdowns. Brownsburg’s sophomore quarterback, Oscar Frye, led the comeback with 449 passing yards, finding receivers Avin Robinson and Branden Sharpe for a combined 16 catches, 335 yards, and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, reigning 5A champions Fort Wayne Snider fell to Fort Wayne Carroll 21-10 in their first year competing at the 6A level. Carroll’s senior running back Will Jeffries rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown, securing a hard-fought victory.

Four reigning champions remain, each facing formidable regional opponents:

  • Indianapolis Lutheran @ Lapel
  • Bishop Chatard vs. New Palestine
  • Bishop Luers @ Maconaquah
  • East Central @ Decatur Central

With challenging matchups ahead, it’s possible that by the semi-state round, no reigning champions will remain in the field.
