Lake Central continued its unbeaten start with another convincing performance, earning Indiana Preps Girls Flag Football Team of the Week honors.
The Indians went on the road Sept. 1 and defeated Portage 38-8, improving to 4-0. Lake Central’s defense helped control the game, creating turnovers and keeping Portage from generating enough offense to keep pace.
Neila Ogden was among the defensive playmakers, recording an interception in the victory. The performance continued an early-season trend for a Lake Central defense that has consistently created problems for opposing offenses.
The 30-point road win came one day after Lake Central defeated Valparaiso, giving the Indians two victories in a two-day stretch. More importantly, Lake Central came out of the week still unbeaten and continued establishing itself as one of the teams to watch in Northwest Indiana.
At 4-0 following the Portage victory, Lake Central had done more than simply start fast. The Indians were beginning to build a résumé.
