When looking at a player like Brayden Holbrook, the first thing that comes to mind is confidence. After last season’s epic performance which saw Lakeland have its first winning season in 6 years, the 6-3 200 lb quarterback made sure to put on a showing to begin his sophomore year. In week one, he threw for 162 yards and one touchdown, helping the Lakers to an exciting upset road win over South Bend St. Joseph. With the offseason going good for him, Brayden Holbrook knows of a way that can really help Lakeland bounce back from last year’s sectional defeat and redeem themselves as postseason champions. The QB with an arm to show, truly believes this with all his heart.

“Hard work and determination and just putting in the hours. I’m also about just having fun. If we have hard work and determination, there is no doubt in my mind we will win sectionals. You also have to have some fun when it comes to football and enjoy the time while you’re there.” Holbrook told Justin Hartsough of One Nation Sports Indiana.

As he prepares for another great year of high school football, the star quarterback has been putting in some good footwork to have success on the gridiron this fall. He hopes that his reflex skills come to good use when reading an opposing team’s defense.

“Really just getting my speed up so I can run and work on off-balance throws. Getting to know the coverages of the defense even more.” Holbrook said.

By going to a lot of Division 1 football camps, it has made Holbrook a better quarterback as he continues to learn from some of the best teams in the country.

“College camps have made me realize I can’t really be a pocket passer in the generation anymore and I need to have quicker footwork and showcase how I can use my legs in tight situations with great accuracy,, Holbrook said.

As if it were Christmas morning, the soon-to-be junior received his first Division 1 offer from the likes of Miami (Ohio). Holbrook’s lifelong mission as a starting quarterback has always been to play football at the next level. And one day, he might make that dream come true by playing professionally.

“When I got the offer, the little kid inside of me jumped around. This has been my dream forever. To play Division 1 football and to play in the NFL. I will continue that dream even if there are all odds against me. But I would like to thank Miami (Ohio) for taking a chance on me.” Holbrook said.

After leading the NECC with 1,710 passing yards and helping Lakeland to a 6-4 (2-2) conference record, Holbrook dreams of breaking all kinds of records his junior year. An NECC title, and going for the program’s first sectional title would be a great way to finish out his third season of varsity with the Lakers.

“Really just beat the records I have and all the ones I haven’t yet for my position and to win sectionals and conference, that is my goal for this season., Holbrook stated.

With only 5 weeks left, your Lakeland Lakers will get their 2024 high school football season going when they welcome South Bend St. Joseph to LaGrange County. Kickoff is slated for a 7pm start time on August 23rd!
