Defensive Player of the Year
George Karlaftis
West Lafayette

A state championship was only fitting to cap the career of West Lafayette’s George Karlaftis. The Purdue recruit was as dominant as any defender in recent history. The 6-4 260-pound defensive lineman’s stats mirrored those of a NFL Pro Bowl type season from J.J. Watt. He racked up over a 100-tackles and 17.5 sacks, to lead West Lafayette to an undefeated Class 3A state championship.

Offensive Player of the Year
Romeir Elliott

Warren Central

Romeir Elliott had a spectacular season, rushing for 3,045 yards and 38 touchdowns, leading Warren Central to an undefeated Class 6A state championship. Elliott rose to the occasion in the biggest games and was the clear difference maker in the title game rushing for over 200-yards against one of the top defenses in the state. Elliott went onto set MIC records and amassed 4,473 yards rushing, and 59 rushing touchdowns in his career (MaxPreps). Southern Illinois beat out several FBS schools to land the talented running back.

Indiana Preps Player of the Year
David Bell

Warren Central

There may not be a more talented athlete in the last decade than Warren Central’s David Bell. As a four-year starter for the Warriors, Bell has earned every accolade imaginable and has set several records. In 2018, Bell was pivotal in all three phases of the game. Fresh off of a basketball state championship, Bell led the Warriors to a Class 6A state championship in the Fall. Despite facing double-coverage and battling nagging injuries, Bell managed to put up amazing stats. His 1,542 yards receiving and 22 touchdowns was impressive. Bell will make his college decision at the Army All American game in January.
