It’s been many years since Pro Football Hall of Famer Rod Woodson roamed the field of Fort Wayne Snider high school. Since then, the Fort Wayne area has seen many of its football athletes go on to play collegiate and professional sports. Still, in regards to recruiting the state of Indiana, many people will mention Indianapolis as the hot bed for talent. In the 2016 class, that is not the case. The top two players in the state reside in Fort Wayne and arguably five of the top ten recruits are from the area.
Thanks to Fort Wayne based sports performance group, Athletes With Purpose, the level of football skills and exposure to the area has increased. CEO Mike Ledo and the AWP Sports brand is responsible for the training, mentoring and the tutoring of college and professional athletes like Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame All-American Jaylon Smith and most recent Wake Forest signee in Jesse Bates. The top five 2016 prospects are also what AWP’s mantra calls “Product of the Process.”
