Five Players to Watch at the Traction AP Girls 7v7 Tryout

Indiana Preps | First Flag — Girls Flag Football | Traction AP Girls 7v7

The second Indiana girls flag football season under IHSAA emerging-sport status produced another wave of athletes capable of playing beyond the traditional boundaries of one position.

That will be part of what makes the upcoming Traction AP Girls 7v7 tryout worth watching.

Indiana Preps reviewed the current registration list and cross-checked varsity production available through MaxPreps. The group includes established seniors, postseason playmakers and younger quarterbacks who could become some of the state’s more recognizable names over the next several seasons.

This is not a ranking of the entire tryout field. It is an early five-player watch list based on verified fall production, positional value and what each athlete brings into an offseason evaluation setting.

Indiana Preps is the official media partner for the Traction AP Girls 7v7 program and will be onsite evaluating prospects throughout the tryout.

Mylee Hurse | Snider | Class of 2027 | RB/DB

There may not be a more intriguing pure athlete on the registration list.

Hurse was the engine of a Snider team that reached the state semifinals and spent most of the season among Indiana’s top girls flag programs. Her MaxPreps ledger credits her with 1,038 rushing yards on just 66 carries, 15.7 yards per attempt, with 12 total touchdowns. She also contributed extensively on defense, where MaxPreps lists her among Snider’s leaders in flag pulls for loss and sacks.

The production jumps off the page, but the 7v7 evaluation should look beyond the rushing totals.

Hurse registered as an RB and brings a skill set that could translate into multiple offensive roles. The questions for the tryout are how naturally she works as a receiver in space, how polished her route tree is and whether her open-field explosiveness translates when the offense becomes almost entirely pass-oriented.

She already proved she can create with the ball. Traction AP gets to evaluate how many different ways it can get it to her.

Ava Paramantgis | Crown Point | Class of 2027 | RB/WR/S

Paramantgis may have the most unusual statistical profile in the group.

She was Crown Point’s leading receiver at 64.2 yards per game and finished with 642 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns in the MaxPreps data.

Then look at the other side. Nineteen interceptions. That total placed Paramantgis among the national leaders reported by MaxPreps, in addition to her offensive production.

That immediately makes her a high-priority evaluation. Is she primarily an offensive weapon? A safety? A two-way prospect? The answer might remain all three.

For 7v7 specifically, her ball production matters. An athlete who has demonstrated the ability to finish plays at receiver and take the football away at that rate defensively gives coaches flexibility with personnel and matchups. Watch how Paramantgis moves against higher-level receivers, how comfortable she is playing in space defensively and whether her ball skills separate her from the rest of the defensive-back group.

Amya Jackson | Snider | Class of 2028 | QB/S/WR

Jackson already gave Indiana Preps one of the postseason’s defining moments.

With Harrison threatening Snider’s regional championship lead, Jackson intercepted Highlyn Newton with 1:24 remaining to secure the Panthers’ trip to state.

That defensive play only tells part of her story. Jackson was Snider’s quarterback, and MaxPreps credited her with 17 touchdown passes in its published team statistics. She also rushed for more than 500 yards in the available season data and led Snider in interceptions defensively.

That versatility makes the junior particularly interesting in a 7v7 environment. Quarterback evaluation should be about more than completed passes. Indiana Preps will be watching her release, accuracy to different areas of the field, anticipation, processing against changing coverages and ability to operate when the first read disappears.

But Jackson registering as a receiver and safety also creates another question: how valuable is she when she is not playing quarterback?

Her regional interception already provided one answer.

Gabrielle Esguerra | Northrop | Class of 2030 | QB

Esguerra is the youngest athlete on this five-player list. She may also have the highest developmental ceiling to evaluate.

The Northrop freshman finished with 3,357 total yards in MaxPreps’ final listed data, including 3,061 passing yards and 242 rushing yards across 11 games. That placed her fourth statewide in total offense among Indiana players listed on the MaxPreps leaderboard.

Those are not ordinary freshman numbers.

Esguerra had multiple high-volume passing performances, including 380 yards and two touchdowns against Wayne. Northrop eventually reached the regional round before falling 20-12 to Snider.

The attraction here is obvious. A Class of 2030 quarterback already producing 3,000-yard passing numbers provides a considerable development window.

Now the evaluation becomes more technical. How does the ball come out? How consistently can she hit intermediate and vertical windows? How does she process disguised coverage? Can she manipulate defenders rather than simply react to them?

The varsity production already gives Esguerra a strong baseline. The Traction AP environment should give evaluators a better look at the quarterback underneath the statistics.

BraLeah King | Wayne | Class of 2027 | RB/WR/CB

King brings some of the most balanced two-way production among the registered seniors.

MaxPreps lists her at 76.8 receiving yards per game, 33.3 rushing yards per game and a team-high 13 total touchdowns for Wayne. Eight came as a receiver and three on the ground.

Defensively, she also recorded four interceptions and averaged 4.5 flag pulls per game in Wayne’s reported statistics. One individual performance captures the offensive upside: King produced 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns against Concordia Lutheran.

For 7v7, that versatility makes sense. She has evidence of production as a receiver, runner and defensive back. The evaluation will be about identifying where her best long-term value sits.

At receiver, watch separation, releases and what happens after the catch. At defensive back, watch her transitions, coverage instincts and ability to locate the ball.

An athlete who can legitimately compete for reps on either side of the football has value when roster construction begins.

Another Name Close to the Five: Bry’Lee Diedrich-Williams

Wayne senior Bry’Lee Diedrich-Williams deserves attention as well.

She is registered as a WR/S and has college opportunities already listed on her registration. MaxPreps credited her with a team-best 116.7 receiving yards per game in its published Wayne statistics.

The statistical sample MaxPreps reported is incomplete, so Indiana Preps is keeping her just outside the five rather than building a full-season comparison. But the receiving production is significant enough that she belongs firmly on the onsite evaluation list.

What Indiana Preps Will Be Evaluating

The fall season provides the résumé. The tryout provides a different evaluation.

Raw varsity statistics matter, but 7v7 allows us to isolate traits that can be harder to separate during school competition: route running, separation, ball skills, man-coverage ability, spatial awareness, quarterback processing, release quickness and how athletes perform against a concentrated group of talented players.

That is where Indiana Preps’ role comes in. As the official media partner for Traction AP Girls 7v7, Indiana Preps will be onsite evaluating the athletes competing for roster spots, identifying emerging prospects and continuing to build its girls flag scouting database.

Hurse, Paramantgis, Jackson, Esguerra and King arrive with production already attached to their names.

The tryout is the next look.

And for several athletes on this registration list, it may be the beginning of a much larger offseason conversation.
