The top of Indiana volleyball is getting complicated.

Fort Wayne Carroll remains the standard with an unbeaten record, but behind the Chargers, head-to-head results are beginning to reshape the board. Hamilton Southeastern handed Westfield a five-set loss, only for Plainfield to sweep HSE three days later. Yorktown continues to win, Southwood remains perfect, and several teams further down the rankings are building résumés that can’t be ignored.

Here is the Indiana Preps Volleyball Power 15 following matches played September 14–20.

1. Fort Wayne Carroll | Previous: 1

Until someone beats Carroll, the No. 1 spot stays in Fort Wayne. The Chargers reached 20-0 in the latest MaxPreps statewide update and continue to hold the No. 1 computer ranking in Indiana. There has been plenty of movement behind them, but Carroll remains the state’s lone constant at the top.

2. Yorktown | Previous: 3

Yorktown moves up without needing a dramatic statement. The Tigers swept New Castle on September 16 and entered the weekend 15-1, with their only loss coming early in the season. More importantly for our poll, Yorktown already owns the head-to-head victory over Hamilton Southeastern. With Westfield taking another loss, the Tigers have earned the move to No. 2.

3. Plainfield | Previous: 5

This is the week’s biggest move. Plainfield beat Avon in five sets and then delivered one of the most significant results of the season Saturday — a 3-0 sweep of Hamilton Southeastern. The Quakers followed with another 3-0 victory over Franklin Central on Sunday. Plainfield has now beaten Bloomington South and HSE in consecutive ranking periods. That’s a top-three résumé.

4. Westfield | Previous: 2

Westfield falls two spots, but this isn’t a collapse. The Shamrocks opened the period by sweeping Carmel before losing a five-set battle at Hamilton Southeastern. MaxPreps had Westfield sitting at 15-2 after the HSE result. Their body of work remains among Indiana’s strongest — the head-to-head loss simply creates room for Yorktown and surging Plainfield to move ahead.

5. Hamilton Southeastern | Previous: 4

Few teams had a more volatile week. HSE beat Westfield 3-2 in one of the state’s premier matches of the season, then was swept by Plainfield on Saturday. The Westfield victory keeps the Royals firmly among the elite, but the Plainfield result has to matter in an editorial poll. HSE remains dangerous — it just can’t stay ahead of the team that beat it 3-0.

6. Carmel | Previous: 8

Carmel continues its climb despite opening the period with a 3-0 loss to Westfield. The Greyhounds responded by beating Lawrence North and Fishers, with the Fishers match ending 3-1. MaxPreps had Carmel No. 5 statewide in its September 17 update, reflecting the strength of its overall résumé and schedule.

7. Southwood | Previous: 12

Southwood gets the correction it deserves. Holding an undefeated small-school team in the back half of the rankings isn’t defensible when the wins keep coming. The Knights swept Maconaquah on September 15 to reach 12-0 and gave us no reason to penalize them through the rest of the week. MaxPreps had Southwood No. 6 statewide in its September 17 rankings. The schedule isn’t the same as the 4A powers above, but winning every match still matters.

8. Center Grove | Previous: 6

Center Grove slides two spots largely because of movement around it. The Trojans beat Warren Central and North Central in straight sets during the period and finished the week 19-3. They’ve established themselves firmly inside the state’s next group behind the top tier — the teams moving ahead simply had stronger results from this particular ranking cycle.

9. Providence | Previous: 14

Providence makes one of the biggest jumps on the board. The Pioneers beat Floyd Central 3-1 on September 15, giving us a direct result against another Power 15 team, and entered the period carrying one of the stronger strength-of-schedule profiles among Indiana teams. Providence was No. 7 in MaxPreps’ September 17 statewide ranking.

10. Bloomington South | Previous: 7

Bloomington South moves down, but the body of work still protects a top-10 spot. The Panthers entered Saturday at 16-1, with their only loss coming against Plainfield. That’s not enough to send them tumbling out of the top 10. The teams moving above them simply accumulated stronger résumé wins over the past two weeks.

11. Harrison (West Lafayette) | Previous: 13

Harrison continues to quietly build one of the better records in the state. The Raiders were 18-3 entering their September 17 matchup with McCutcheon and sat No. 8 in MaxPreps’ statewide rankings at the time. The consistency keeps Harrison moving upward.

12. Chesterton | Previous: 11

Chesterton remains one of Northwest Indiana’s strongest teams. The Trojans swept Merrillville and La Porte during the week and are now 21-3 overall and 8-0 in Duneland Conference play per MaxPreps. That’s enough to keep them firmly in the Power 15.

13. Penn | Previous: 9

Penn takes the largest drop among teams that remain ranked — and it’s more about résumé movement elsewhere than a sudden discounting of the Kingsmen. Penn was 17-4 in the latest available MaxPreps team update and remains one of Northern Indiana’s most accomplished programs, but Providence, Harrison, and Chesterton have stronger momentum entering this poll.

14. Floyd Central | Previous: 15

The Highlanders stay in despite the 3-1 loss to Providence. Floyd Central entered the weekend 13-4 and was No. 9 in MaxPreps’ September 17 statewide ranking. The Providence result settles the head-to-head question between those two teams, but Floyd Central’s overall schedule and résumé still warrant a Power 15 spot.

15. New Palestine | Previous: 10

New Palestine hangs onto the final position. The Dragons beat Perry Meridian 3-1 on September 16 and entered the following night at 17-1. Their record remains difficult to dismiss, even as the strength of the middle of the Power 15 has pushed them down the board.
