A familiar face in Louisville, many are aware of what 2023 four-star lineman William Spencer brings to the football field. A standout at powerhouse Louisville Male, the 6’5 300-pound prospect has college coaches across the country extending scholarship offers. However, it will be a new team Spencer will take the field for his senior season. Reaping those benefits will be the school across the river, New Albany High School. Head Coach Steve Cooley and the Bulldogs are fresh off a historic run in 2021, earning 10-wins , capturing a sectional and regional title before losing to eventual Class 5A champion Cathedral in the semi-state game.
It was apparent in a scrimmage against Columbus North that Spencer possesses elite ability. He has quick feet. strong, active hands, and plays with a bit of a mean streak. On the offensive side, he was rock solid in his pass sets, stonewalling defenders and mauling his opponent in run game.
Spencer is an explosive big man, and he credits renowned Louisville trainer Chris Vaughn with his development. “When I got to Chris, I was just raw” he said. “He tapped into my potential to play on both sides of the ball” Spencer said. Schools such as Kentucky, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and more are recruiting him to be a disruptor on either side of the ball. He mentioned that his official visits are not quite set, but would like to make it out to the schools noted and has Auburn tabbed as a school to visit.
Asking Spencer in what we should expect at New Albany. “New beginnings, but same ol same ol” he said.
