The semi final games gave fans a glimpse at which teams are starting to peak at the right time. Traditional powers like New Palestine, Fort Wayne Snider and Hobart are hitting their stride as the season has progressed. Then there’s a handful of teams that have continued their winning ways since the regular season.
East Central dominated the line of scrimmage on Friday, rushing for 288 yards in their 52-26 win over Martinsville. The Trojans will host Martinsville for the Sectional 23 championship.
Bishop Chatard started the season 0-4 before finding their groove and ripping off 7 straight wins. One of those losses included a 7-point defeat at the hands of conference foe Roncalli. The Trojans and Rebels will clash on Friday for the Sectional 22 championship.
Lawrence Central took advantage of every miscue by Warren Central, knocking off the Warriors 13-8. The Bears are seeking their first sectional championship since 2015. It will take another valiant effort against crosstown rival Lawrence North to capture the crown.
South Adams continues to find ways to get it done. The Starfires knocked off unbeaten Monroe Central in a close one. Accustomed to playing for championships, The Starfires will attempt to repeat as sectional champs and begin their quest for a returned trip to Lucas Oil.
Valparaiso is flying under the radar despite going 8-1 during the regular season. Their lone loss is to 6a Merrillville. The Vikings have been dominant since then. Allowing 7 points and hutting out opponents in two of their last three games. Valparaiso is in the thick of the class 5a north race.
