Evansville, Indiana: This week marks the conclusion of the 2020 regular season in Indiana High School football. I attended the North @ Central game, a major rivalry within the city of Evansville (and the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference).
North kicked off to Central to open the night, and the Bears proceeded to march 64 yards on 9 plays, and Tailback Tory Evans ran for a 9-yard TD with 8:07 remaining in the first quarter.
North was unable to sustain much in the way of offense on the night. The Central defense had quite a bit to do with it, as they snuffed out potential threats (via a turnover on downs, forcing multiple North punts, and an interception by Edgrrin Reed).
The Central ground game was balanced and effective in its blend of power and explosiveness, as Evans added a touchdown run of 74 yards, FB Javonte Madison powered in for two touchdown runs (5 yards and 1 yard), and FB Jacob Boberg had a strong 14-yard touchdown run.
With a convincing 35-0 victory, the Bears complete an unbeaten regular season at 9-0 and capture the outright SIAC and City Championships. Central will travel to Jasper to open Sectional 24 play next week.
North (5-4), meanwhile, will look to bounce back in Sectional 15, as the Huskies will host Bloomington North on October 30.
