Fort Wayne Carroll pursues a third straight title, Benton Central seeks redemption, and three programs make their first state finals appearances Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Eight teams remain in Indiana’s high school girls volleyball season. Four will leave Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday as state champions.
The championship field features a defending dynasty, a returning state runner-up, several first-time finalists and players who have produced some of the state’s most impressive individual numbers.
Here is what matters in each matchup.
Class 1A | Noon
Indianapolis Lutheran (26-7) vs. Rossville (27-8)
Lutheran has been dominant during the postseason, winning every tournament match in straight sets. The Saints feature a productive attacking group led by Sophia Levine, Lillian Pass and Faith King. Levine also leads the team with 72 blocks.
Rossville has taken a more demanding path. The Hornets survived top-ranked Covington in a five-set regional championship and are making their first state finals appearance. Sophomore Blaire Wellman has 448 kills, while freshman Mallory Edmonds has added 323.
The key question: Can Rossville’s young attackers generate enough production against Lutheran’s stronger statistical blocking presence?
Class 2A | 2:30 p.m.
Heritage Christian (22-9) vs. Benton Central (26-6)
Benton Central is back after finishing as the state runner-up in 2025. The Bison have won 12 consecutive matches and returned five starters from last year’s championship squad. Junior Khloe Goodman leads the team with 312 kills and 336 digs.
Heritage Christian is pursuing its second volleyball state championship after winning in 2019. Senior Ella Mensch leads the Eagles with 446 kills, and setter Bethany Ring has 821 assists.
The key question: Can Heritage Christian overcome Benton Central’s advantages in team hitting percentage, kills per set and digs per set?
Class 3A | 5 p.m.
Tri-West (30-6) vs. West Noble (32-3)
Neither program has previously played in a volleyball state championship match.
Tri-West is led by senior Caroline Ward, who enters with 651 kills. Junior setter Tatum Hatch has 1,105 assists. West Noble counters with the sister combination of Elyse and Lydia Mead, who have combined for 715 kills, while setter Ella Limerick has 882 assists.
The statistical comparison is relatively close. Tri-West has the edge in hitting percentage, while West Noble averages more digs per set.
The key question: Can West Noble’s defense limit Ward without allowing Tri-West’s other attackers to take control?
Class 4A | 7:30 p.m.
Center Grove (34-4) vs. Fort Wayne Carroll (35-1)
Carroll is seeking a third consecutive Class 4A championship. The Chargers have won 14 straight matches and have not dropped a set during this year’s tournament. Senior Sarah Stegall leads the team with 463 kills, while Elli Oskey has recorded 980 assists.
Center Grove has reached its first state championship match since 2000. Sophomore Gabby Gilliard leads the Trojans with 546 kills. Senior setter Anabelle Schembra has 1,158 assists.
The key question: Can Center Grove’s blocking and defensive production disrupt Carroll’s highly efficient attack?
The Championship Schedule
All four matches will be played Saturday, November 7, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Class 1A begins at noon, followed by Class 2A at 2:30 p.m., Class 3A at 5 p.m. and Class 4A at 7:30 p.m. The matches will be streamed on IHSAAtv.
For Carroll, the opportunity is another championship in an extraordinary run. For Benton Central, it is a chance to finish a journey that ended one victory short last season. For Tri-West, West Noble and Rossville, it is an opportunity to make program history.
Four championships. Eight teams. One final day.
