Five weeks are in the books, and Week 6 brings a few matchups that can tell us a lot about where teams are heading into the final stretch.

Not every game needs a complicated storyline. Some are simply good football games between teams that have earned the attention.

Here are four worth watching this week.

No. 2 Westfield at No. 1 Brownsburg

This is the headliner.

Brownsburg and Westfield both enter Friday at 5-0, ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the latest MaxPreps rankings. Both are also 3-0 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.

Brownsburg is averaging 45 points per game, while Westfield is at 40.8.

But this matchup isn’t really about who has scored more against the first five opponents.

It’s about styles.

Both teams can run the football, both can create explosive plays and neither has had much trouble putting pressure on opposing defenses. Westfield has already gone through Carmel, Zionsville and Hamilton Southeastern, while Brownsburg’s schedule has included Lawrence North, Avon and Fishers.

Brownsburg also has senior receiver Branden Sharpe, who enters Friday averaging 93.2 receiving yards per game with seven touchdowns.

Friday is the first time either team gets to test its identity against another undefeated team at this level.

No. 21 Decatur Central at No. 22 Plainfield

This one doesn’t have the attention of Brownsburg-Westfield, but it could be one of the most important conference games on the list.

Decatur Central and Plainfield both enter at 4-1 and 3-0 in the Mid-State Conference.

Decatur Central has shown it can win with a physical ground game while also getting production from sophomore quarterback Ezekiel Hester. Hunter Harvey remains a major part of that rushing attack, but the Hawks have enough pieces around him to keep defenses from simply keying on one player.

Plainfield brings a similar physical element and has won four straight heading into Friday.

That makes this less about finding out which team is “better” and more about which one can impose its style when the two finally meet.

No. 15 Zionsville at No. 17 Hamilton Southeastern

The records are different, but the rankings make this one worth watching.

Zionsville enters 4-1 and No. 15, while Hamilton Southeastern is 2-3 and No. 17 in the latest MaxPreps rankings.

Zionsville has won two straight since its Week 3 loss to Westfield, including a 29-23 win over Noblesville.

Hamilton Southeastern has had a more uneven start, but its offense showed what it can do in a 49-35 win over Fishers before running into Westfield last week.

So the question here isn’t whether HSE can score.

It’s whether the Royals can sustain that production against a Zionsville team that has already shown it can bounce back from a difficult loss.

For Zionsville, it’s another opportunity to keep building momentum inside the HCC.

No. 25 Lawrence Central at No. 5 Center Grove

This is a different kind of test.

Center Grove is 4-1 and No. 5, while Lawrence Central is 2-3 and No. 25 in the latest MaxPreps rankings.

The Bears are coming off a 33-15 win over Pike, so there is some momentum heading into the matchup.

Center Grove has already shown what its offense can do, averaging 44.8 points per game through five weeks.

For Lawrence Central, the challenge is slowing down a team that has been consistently productive without letting the game become a track meet.

For Center Grove, it’s about handling a team coming off a strong performance and continuing to build toward October.

Four games. Four different questions.

Brownsburg and Westfield get the spotlight.

Decatur Central and Plainfield have a conference race to sort out.

Zionsville and Hamilton Southeastern are both looking to strengthen their position in the HCC.

Lawrence Central gets a chance to test itself against one of the state’s top-ranked teams.
