Rochester, The Chargers are one game away from perfect. Carroll beat the Crown Point Bulldogs 3-1 tonight after a 5-set thriller vs Westfield earlier today. It wasn’t the cleanest the Chargers have played this season but it got the job done. Carroll stormed out to a 1st set win thanks in part to Bailey Sinish who had 8 kills in the set, Cala Haffner who had a pair of aces, Lola Sasse and Addi Shippy who had blocks, and Ellie Oskey, who was swinging the hammer on the right side. Elle Schara for the Bulldogs was doing everything in her power to make sure the Charger had thier hands full with 16 kills on the day.
The second went the way of Crown Point led by Schara on the attack and Natalie Ogrentz on the block. Ogrentz had 3 blocks in the set. Addi Shippy didn’t let Carroll go quietly as she had 4 kills in the set. The passing from the Chargers was shaky in the set and that ulitmaly led to a 25-23 Bulldog win.
The third set was back to basics for the Chargers as Sinish was able to swing freely and when she was stopped, Stegall and Oskey picked up the slack. Sasse and Gisslen also picked up blocks in the set which help set up Lauren Peters to end it with an ace.
The 4th set was back and forth for the entire duration as the Bulldogs went on a run, then the Chargers went on a run, then back to the Bulldogs and back to the Chargers. Carroll took a timeout at 21-21 and was able to draw up a couple plays to take a 23-21 lead which prompted a Crown Point timeout. Out of the timeout the Bulldogs got one before an error gave the serve back to Carroll. Haffner set it cleanly to Gisslen, who was able to find Sinish who hammered it up the line for the winning kill.
Carroll is headed back to the state title game for the second time in program history.
