Lafayette IN, The Red Devils were able to prevail 34-27 in a turnover heavy battle for both sides.

1st Quarter: The start of the game looked like we were in for a track meet as LCC drove 68 yards down to the one yard line in 4 mineuts, however they were unable to punch it from the one even with the heavy package and fullhouse packages in. Westside mounted a reasonable drive of thier own before it stalled out as well with an INT. Zero points were scored in the 1st.

2nd Quarter: The Knights qucikly opened up the period with a FG to take a three – zero lead. West Lafayette’s Kojo Steffey took on 61 yard to house to get the Devils on the board 7-3. A couple of stalled drives for both side follwed but with 3:43 the Knights forced a fumble on QB Blake Biddle and ran it back to paydirt for another TD, 10-7 Central. That wasn’t all the exitment in the second however as Westside marched right down the field and Steffey found the endzone again from one yard out. The PAT was missed and the score at half was 13-10.

3rd Quarter: Not a ton of note happened for the first 6 minetes of the frame. That was until Steffey had the ball knocked out of his hands with a hard hit from the Knights. They ran the ball all the way across to other 35 before being backed up to midfield after a deadball penalty. Central Catholic was able to capitlze on the turnover with Mason Meister finding the endzone with a little over 4 to go in the frame. The Knights were able to tack on a FG to bring the score to 20-13 to end the quarter.

4th Quarter: The Devils were backed into a corner to start here and immediately responded with 46 yard strike to Fielder Melchi to bring the score even at 20. West Lafayette kept there foot on the gas with an INT from Micah Davis which allowed Steffey was able to run in his third TD of the evening. 27-20. LCC had a good drive going until a West Side defender jumped a slant and ran it to the crib, that was effectily the dagger at 34-20 with 3:52 to go. The Knights were able to answer with one touchdown to Jackson Newkirk with :47 seconds to go. The Knights weren’t able to get the onside that they needed to stay alive and Westside prevailed with the W.

A great game tonight at Central Catholic, West Lafayette plays Western at home next week while LCC takes on Rensselaer Central on the road.
