#7 Harrison took down #15 McCutcheon in 5 sets tonight, as both squads plauye a great game. Both teams were playing for more than just a W in the record book as this was the “Battle of The Tippy” which includes its own trophy. It was a back and forth battle all night long with alternating set wins starting with McCutcheon.
Set by set break down:
1st Set: 25 – 21 McCutcheon
A rocky start for both sides as 5 service errorrs started the game. McCutcheon was able to build momentum to force a timeout at 13-8 after a few kills from Maezi Snyder and Dylan Bryan. The Mavs kept their foot on the gas to get the set to 20-14 and forced another timeout, before the Raiders were able to rally, but it wasn’t enough as Lexi Shondell hit the final tapover to end the set.
2nd Set: 25-20 Harrison
The Raiders bounced back in a big way in the 2nd with a pair of aces to start the set and a block from Eva Stokes set Harrison up nicely in the set. They scored early and often, running out to 12-8 lead before forcing a timeout. The Raiders were able to play their cards well enough to force a service error from the Mavs to end the set.
3rd set: 25-21 McCutcheon
McCutcheon didn’t duck out quite yet and fought for a hard win in the set on the back of 3 different aces and ended the set with a Snyder hammer kill.
4th Set: 25-19 Harrison
In a do-or-die fashion, the Raiders bounced back after trailing for most of the set . Mak Ketterer had a pair of aces to help get the set off to a good start. A back-and-forth set finally had the Raiders prevailing at the end to force a 5th.
5th: Harrison 15-12
The Mavs conceded an early lead, finding themselves in 6-1 hole, and that was too steep to overcome. Ketterer played a large role in the set, helping to grab a few of the crucial points. The Mavs rallied a bit, but it was too little too late as the Raiders took home the W 3-2.
Up Next: Harrison takes on Zionsville and Mt. Vernon in the coming days while McCutehon takes on Dwenger, Brownsburg, and a match with 4A State Champ – Carroll.
