It was a championship weekend to remember for Roncalli High School, as both the girls soccer team and girls volleyball team brought home Circle City Conference titles.

Royals Soccer Makes History

For the first time in program history, the Roncalli girls soccer team won the Circle City Conference championship, edging Brebeuf Jesuit in a thrilling penalty kick finish. The Royals went a perfect 4-for-4 in the shootout with conversions from freshmen Brooklyn Ahaus and Selah Roach and juniors Addie Gates and Lizzy Metzger. Junior goalkeeper Vivie Hayes came up with clutch saves in goal, sealing the 4-2 victory and the school’s first-ever conference crown.

Head coach Lacey Herschel praised her team’s resilience.

“I could not be prouder of this young team. They’ve shown grit, determination, passion and adaptability all season, and with every game, they continue to grow stronger together. Our conference is filled with powerhouse programs that are consistently among the top in 2A, but our girls stepped up to the challenge. This is a talented group of players with so much promise, and winning our first-ever conference title is just the beginning!”

The Royals will now shift their focus to the Marion County Tournament, opening play on Monday, September 22 at 7:00 PM at home against Lawrence Central.

Volleyball Secures Third Straight Title

On the hardwood, Roncalli volleyball continued its dominance, winning the Circle City Conference title for the third straight season after a hard-fought five-set victory over Brebeuf Jesuit. Seniors Lily Jones and Grace Troxell led the way for the Royals, combining for 24 kills and seven blocks on the night.

Head coach Christina Erazmus (Roncalli ’01) credited her players’ daily commitment.

“Winning the conference championship is a testament to the day-to-day work our team is putting in and the effort to battle through adversity. I am so proud of the players and coaches who continue to strive to build a championship team.”

The Royals will celebrate Senior Night on Monday, September 29 at 7:00 PM, hosting Heritage Christian at the Ascension St. Vincent Gymnasium.

Athletic Director’s Praise

Roncalli athletic director David Lauck (Roncalli ’94) applauded both programs for their achievements:

“Congratulations to our girls soccer team on winning their first Circle City Conference championship, and to Coach Erazmus and her volleyball team on their third consecutive title. The conference only continues to get more competitive, so these accomplishments are a tremendous testament to our coaches and student-athletes.”

With championships in both soccer and volleyball, it’s clear the Royals’ fall sports programs are setting a high standard and building momentum for the postseason.
