For any athlete who relies on their legs, one of the most frustrating injuries to deal with is a hamstring strain. That was the case for Indian Creek outfielder and pitcher Colt DeHart, who spent a significant portion of the 2024 season battling a nagging hamstring injury.

He described the injury and recovery process as both “a challenge and a grind.”

“I learned that I was using too much of my hamstring while running,” DeHart said. “I went into physical therapy and made other muscles stronger so they could provide support instead of relying solely on my hamstring. I believe I’m a lot better now that I’ve fixed this problem and am ready for this upcoming season.”

Determined not to let the injury define him, DeHart committed himself to a disciplined offseason, putting in work both on and off the diamond to ensure he’d be fully prepared for the demands of high school baseball.

“After I recovered last year, I had a pretty good season. This offseason has also been a grind. I’ve been in the gym and working on my tools all offseason,” DeHart added.

Indian Creek’s 2024 campaign came to a close in the sectional semifinal, where they fell 7-1 to eventual sectional champion Northview. That loss has fueled DeHart and his teammates throughout the winter.

“The team’s goal this year is to win the sectional and have a winning record. Individually, I want to help my team win games and achieve the 3-4-5 goal our coach set for all of us — .300 batting average, .400 on-base percentage, and .500 slugging percentage,” DeHart said. “I believe my team can be better than last year. We have the pitching and coaching to do so. We just need to do all the little things right. We need to cut down on the little mistakes and make bigger plays.”

With a clean bill of health and a motivated mindset, DeHart is poised to be a key contributor for Indian Creek in what he hopes will be a breakout season.
