In the blink of an eye, just 32 teams remain alive in the Hoosier state, with eight remaining in each classification.
With the best-of-the-best needing to prevail through so vigorous rounds of sectional and regional pairings, it leaves plenty of intriguing semi-state match-ups to be played on Feb. 22.
Here are the top games to watch:
4A: Warsaw (24-1) vs. McCutcheon (24-3)
Tipping off at noon at Frankfort following Hamilton Southeastern vs. Valparaiso, Warsaw and McCutcheon are destined for a competitive game that would be more than capable of being the title game if seeded on opposites of the bracket.
Sophomore guard Lillie Graves leads McCutcheon in points, assists and steals and has continually put up impressive stat lines all year. The 2027 recruit has scored double-digit points in all but one game this season when Lafayette Central Catholic held her to nine points on Nov. 22.
Junior guards Joslyn Bricker and Brooke Zartman pace the Tigers in points and steals — each averaging 18 points and three steals — as Bricker has risen to be the top option in the playoffs.
Bricker has averaged 22 points per game throughout sectionals and regionals, helping to pace the Tigers to this point in the tournament.
Whichever backcourt can play clean and limit turnovers will be the winner of this one.
3A: Greensburg (25-0) vs. Evansville Central (23-4)
While there has been a handful of close calls, Greensburg has been nothing but dominant this season being led by three scorers over 15 points per game — with a fourth right around 10 points.
The talented pirates will be tipping off against the Bears at noon in New Albany following Cathedral vs. Roncalli.
With so many weapons being able to combat defenses from all over the court, the difficulty of stopping such a dynamic offense is portrayed by the lack of teams that have successfully been able to do so all season long — a whopping zero.
Such a lack of success from opponents can reasonably write off any opponent that steps on the court against the Pirates; however, one thing the Bears have that Greensburg does not is junior forward Madalynn Shirley.
Shirley has averaged 25 points and 12 rebounds this season — recording a triple-double with blocks in a loss to North Posey while averaging 27 points and 11 boards over the last wo games.
While Greensburg has the overwhelming amount of talent, never overlook a team with as dominant of a player like Evansville Central has with Shirley.
2A: Parke Heritage (23-4) vs. South Knox (25-2)
Moving on to the Jasper host site, South Knox looks to continue their season of destiny with their first ever Semi-State appearance — for either boys or girls basketball — going up against Parke Heritage.
The Wolves are led by senior guard Emma Simpson, filling up the stat sheet to the tune of 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals per game.
Despite the impressive play from Simpson and the rest of the Wolves squad, it is hard to beat a team with its entire community rallying to support their first ever basketball team to play in a semi-state game.
2A: Sheridan (25-1) vs. Rensselaer Central (24-2)
In terms of games that are good enough to be playing in Grainbridge, Sheridan and Renssalaer Central tipping off at noon in Logansport is one of the most state-title-worthy games that have been played in any bracket thus far.
Senior guard/forward Kenzie Garner in every major statistical category, being the engine of the 2A regular season power — including 40 points in the sectional championship against Lapel.
On the flip side, the Bombers have a three-headed monster of scorers at or above 12 points per game this season — led by junior guard Kamri Rowland at 15 points per game.
With so much star power on both sides, it will be a battle of attrition and effort. Whichever team brings the most energy in the fourth quarter while maintaining possession of the ball will win this one.
1A: Elkhart Christian (21-5) vs. Lafayette Central Catholic (23-4)
Last, but certainly not least, is the 10:00 a.m. tip up in LaPorte with Elkhart Christian facing off against Lafayette Central Catholic.
In one of the more even matchups on the board, both teams have found themselves suffering convincing losses to higher-class opponents while being able to convincingly separate themseleves from the majority of their 1A adversaries.
Elkhart Christian is a young team led by junior guard Ivy Clapsaddle with 13 points per game, getting scoring support from two freshman guards in Lily Maxwell and Kyla Yordy — each contributing 10 points an outing.
During tournament play, Maxwell has been the one to stand tall with an average of 18 points through sectionals and regionals.
As for the Knights, they are lead by a fierce group of seniors with Maddy Bruce, Grace Bordenet and Carley Barrett all captaining their squad to 11 straight victories.
Now is the time of year when experience can get some wins, and that may just be the case in this matchup.
