As the final seconds ticked off the clock at Lucas Oil Stadium and the celebration erupted on the Adams Central sideline Friday, quarterback Jamison Roach reflected on last year’s disappointment.

In 2023, the Jets fell short for the third consecutive year in the Class A state title game, losing to Lutheran. Roach, then a special teams contributor, experienced the heartache firsthand.

“I think just being there last year and being able to see how big the stadium and the crowd were helped me be ready for what to expect,” Roach told Indiana Preps. “The whole team knows the routine of a state week, and just knowing what to expect helped prepare us for sure.”

Preparedness and Perseverance Lead to Victory

Armed with experience and the lessons of previous losses, Roach and the Jets took the field with a mission in this year’s Class 2A state title game against Linton-Stockton. Roach’s performance showcased his growth and determination, as he rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries while adding nine passing yards on a 1-of-7 effort. His leadership propelled Adams Central to its first state championship since 2000.

“A big key to the game was the fact that we all played our hearts out and left nothing on the field,” Roach said. “I knew coming into this week that we could win, but I didn’t think by that much.”

A “Surreal” Moment for the Jets

For Roach, the victory was about more than just a trophy. It was a statement to those who doubted Adams Central after significant graduations and a move up in class.

“We knew we had a lot of guys ready to step up,” Roach said. “As the season went on, I think we realized we had what it takes to get back to state. Finally getting the win was amazing.”

The victory held special meaning for the team’s seniors, who had faced disappointment year after year.

“The seniors this year have been let down year after year, and to finally get them and everyone a win was amazing,” Roach said. “The community has been behind us for years, and to finally bring one home to Monroe is an awesome feeling.”

With perseverance, preparation, and a strong sense of community, Adams Central’s journey to redemption is a story that will resonate for years to come.
