As one of Northeast Indiana’s top point guards, Ava McGrade enters her senior year at Lakewood Park with unmatched momentum. Last season, she averaged a stellar 19.8 points per game, alongside 3.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals. With a sharp basketball IQ and an all-around shooting ability, McGrade is recognized not only for her scoring but also for her standout leadership as the Panthers’ starting combo guard.
“My biggest attribute is my leadership as an upperclassman,” McGrade told Indiana Preps. “I play with a very motivated group of teammates, supported by great coaches.”
One of McGrade’s career highlights came on January 20, when she reached her 1,000th career point against Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, becoming just the third player in Lakewood Park history to achieve this milestone. “To be surrounded by my family, friends, coaches, and teammates made it an unforgettable moment,” she shared.
With her AAU career now behind her, McGrade has been focused on refining her game. She’s dedicated to improving in every area, spending daily hours in the gym and increasing her conditioning to ensure her final high school season is her best yet.
“After my last AAU season, I’ve been working on every part of my game,” McGrade said. “I’m in the gym every day, pushing myself because there’s always room for improvement.”
McGrade’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed. She’s received college offers from Anderson, Alma, Transylvania, Trine, Saint Mary’s, and Manchester. As she considers her options, McGrade is searching for the right academic and athletic fit.
“I’ve been blessed throughout my recruitment process, meeting amazing coaches and potential teammates,” McGrade said. “At the end of the day, I want a program with a positive, competitive culture and strong academics.”
Following Lakewood Park’s 16-7 finish last season, McGrade is determined to help her team bring home a sectional title, just as her older brother Keegan did in his senior year.
“My big goal as a senior is for our team to bring home a second sectional championship to Lakewood Park,” she said.
Lakewood Park opens its season at home this Thursday, facing Churubusco at 7:30 p.m. Let’s pack the stands and cheer on Ava McGrade and the Lady Panthers!
