As we approach the start of a brand new year for Indiana girls high school basketball, a talented point guard from Turtle Town has emerged, exemplifying leadership and confidence on the court. For Churubusco senior Bridget Timbrook, basketball has been a significant part of her journey as an athlete. Ever since she participated in pickup games with her older sister Keri, Timbrook knew she was destined for the sport. It wasn’t long before she realized how much fun she had playing and the many friendships she formed along the way.
“I grew up in the gym because she would work out, and I would work out with her and girls her age. Sometimes, I would play up with her team if they needed someone to fill in,” Timbrook told Justin Hartsough of One Nation Sports Indiana.
One of Timbrook’s greatest memories as a high school basketball player came when she made her varsity debut as a freshman at Churubusco. Last season, she averaged 9.3 points and 3.8 rebounds, including a career-high 22 points against Leo. As a junior, she led the Lady Eagles in blocks, steals, and assists, and was also the team’s leader in both free throws and field goals made. With the progress she’s made over the last three years, there’s much to be proud of as Bridget prepares for her final season with Churubusco.
“My first high school game. I started varsity my freshman year, so being announced in front of my home crowd was a special moment for me,” Timbrook said.
As if she had already found her perfect fit, Timbrook announced on social media that she would continue her academic and athletic careers at Earlham College. After numerous college visits through AAU, Bridget knew joining the Lady Quakers was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up. Following high school, Timbrook plans to study pre-med with hopes of becoming a trauma surgeon someday.
“The academics really sold me. I wanted somewhere with a cadaver lab. Coach Adams made me feel so welcomed on my visit, and it was my first college visit. I always knew I wanted to commit to Earlham,” Timbrook explained.
With no specific goals in mind, Timbrook intends to continue her athletic journey by striving to be the best version of herself. Her focus this season is on developing her fundamentals and preparing for the next chapter in her basketball career.
“This year, I’m just focusing on my player development and gearing up for college basketball. The wins and losses don’t matter as much as my growth as a player and leader,” Timbrook said.
After finishing last season with a record of 5-18 (3-9), the Churubusco Lady Eagles will kick off a new season on Tuesday, November 5th, when they travel to take on Izzie Ecke and the Bishop Dwenger Saints. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. start time. Hope to see you there!
