Indiana Preps | Team of the Week — Week 7
South Putnam did not just win the biggest game on its schedule.
The Eagles turned it into another statement.
South Putnam beat previously unbeaten Northview 45-7 on Friday, moving to 7-0 and adding another dominant result to a season that has rarely been close. Northview entered 6-0. South Putnam beat them by 38.
That is what separates this from another routine win.
The Eagles have spent most of the season overwhelming opponents, but Northview was supposed to provide a different kind of test. Instead, South Putnam made the matchup look like the rest.
Through seven games, the Eagles have scored 380 points and allowed 40. Their offensive totals: 56, 60, 42, 49, 58, 70 and 45. Their defensive results: 14, 0, 6, 13, 0, 0 and 7. That is an average margin of roughly 54-6.
The numbers are extreme. The more important part is who Friday’s win came against.
Northview arrived unbeaten with its own momentum. South Putnam did not let the game develop into the kind of four-quarter test the records suggested. The Eagles controlled it early, created separation and never gave the Knights a real path back into the game.
That has become the pattern.
South Putnam is not just scoring at a high level. It is pairing that production with a defense that has posted three shutouts and has allowed more than 14 points only once. That balance is what makes the Eagles one of the more complete teams in Class 2A.
It also makes the move up in classification more interesting.
South Putnam entered this season after winning the Class 1A state championship and moving into 2A under the IHSAA Tournament Success Factor. The question was whether the standard would travel. Seven weeks in, it has. The Eagles are unbeaten, scoring more than 50 points per game, and when their first matchup against another 6-0 team arrived, they won by five touchdowns.
For turning a battle of unbeatens into another dominant night, Indiana Preps names South Putnam its Football Team of the Week, powered by H3 Athletix.
