Several Indiana seniors recently received an opportunity to play Division I football as the Ball State Cardinals have handed out Preferred Walk-On opportunities to both Bishop Chatard’s Colin Guy and Greenfield-Central’s Reese Hill, as well as Hamilton Heights quarterback Bodie Derrer.
For Hill, the opportunity from Ball State is added to offers from Butler, Indiana Wesleyan and Marian.
“I’ve definitely seen a lot of action in the last few weeks. It feels awesome and is something I have been waiting on for a while for sure,” Hill said of his offers.
A season ago, Hill recorded 38 tackles, 23 solo tackles, three sacks and six tackles for a loss for the Cougars. He said the opportunity from Ball State was “huge.”
“Although it’s not a scholarship, it is still awesome to still see all the work pay off. It is definitely huge to get some sort of attention from an FBS school, which has been a goal of mine for a long time,” Hill said.
He said the BSU coaches told him they liked how he shows a variety on the field, playing both offense and defense.
“It is definitely a place I would love to consider in my choice. It is definitely towards the top of offers as far as the opportunities I could see there within football,” Hill said.
For Guy, the opportunity came on the heels of an offer from Valparaiso.
“It feels great. It was unexpected, and it, obviously, ranks pretty high because it is Division I. It is going to be a lot to think about, but I like taking chances on myself,” said Guy, who was recently named to the IFCA Region 7 All-Star Team.
Last season, Guy played a vital role in Bishop Chatard capturing the Class 3A state title, as he reeled in 65 catches for 837 yards and 13 touchdowns, and recorded four interceptions, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and 29 tackles on the defensive side of the football. Guy said Ball State found plenty of things on film they liked about his game.
“They like my speed, length and my hands. My teammate, Sam Feeney, has committed there, it’s not too far from home and the coaching staff is great,” said Guy, who is set to visit Ball State Jan. 27.
