Special Teams P/K of the Year
Ben Gomez, Cathedral
The Cathedral Irish won a consecutive class 5A state championship in part of the leg of Ben Gomez, who went 18-23 on field goals, with a long of 45-yards. The senior kicker was near automatic in extra-points, nailing 60 of his 61 attempts. His right foot pinned opposing offenses deep with 54 touchbacks on the year. Gomez is currently uncommitted.
Offensive Player of the Year
Lavarion Logan, Merrillville
Lavarion Logan finished his career at the top of Merrillville High’s rushing record books. His 2,256 yards rushing this past Fall was a big piece to Merrillville’s back-to-back Class 6A semifinal game appearances. For his senior campaign, Logan averaged 173.5 yards a game, and added 38 touchdowns for the Pirate offense. Logan finished his career with 3,883 yards rushing and is committed to play football at Illinois State University.
Defensive Player of the Year
Caden Curry, Center Grove
Caden Curry and the Center Grove Trojans captured their back-to-back 6A state championship this past fall, and Curry was as dominant on the defensive side of the ball as anyone in the state. Attracting double-teams every game, the 6’5 255-pound Curry tallied 24 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 7 sacks in 2021. He added five touchdowns on the offensive side as a weapon for the Trojans. Curry finished his career with 290 tackles and 28 sacks. Curry is committed to play football at Ohio State University.
Indiana Preps Player of the Year
Brady Allen, Gibson Southern
A storybook finish for Brady Allen and the Gibson Southern Titans finishing the year as 3A state champions. Allen led the Titan’s offense with the state’s third all-time best season passing, with 4,253 yards passing. The 6’5 gunslinger completed 68-percent of his passes and hit paydirt 58 times and was nearly mistake free with only 6 interceptions on the season. Allen is the state’s second all-time leading passer for career yards at 11,918 yards. Allen is committed to play football at Purdue University
