The Regional Championship between Southwestern (Hanover) and Southridge brought with it easily the biggest crowd to date that I have seen in the 2020-2021 season.

Southwestern (Hanover) had a narrow 9-8 lead at the end of the First Quarter. Southridge began to break through offensively in the Second Quarter, and led 25-19 at Halftime.

The Third Quarter was when the combination of Southridge’s experience, home court advantage, and threats outside of Colson Montgomery began to really click into place. The Raiders led 41-26 at the end of three Quarters of play.

Southridge was able to withstand the Southwestern (Hanover) attempt at a Fourth Quarter comeback, converting lay-ups and free throws to put the game away.

Southridge wins the Class 2A Regional, 61-48. The Raiders will play Parke Heritage in the Class 2A Semi-State at Washington next week.

Game Balls [Southwestern (Hanover)]: Foster Mefford (6’1” Senior Guard) scored 21 points in leading the Rebels’ attack. Showed the ability to get to the rim off the bounce, and has deep range. Also, kudos to Austin Kramer (6’0” Senior Guard) for a gutty effort, playing through what appeared to be cramping.

Game Ball (Southridge): The easy answer here would be Montgomery with 30 points, but I’m going to commend Carter Whitehead (5’11” Senior Guard) for a tremendous effort (15 points).
