The 2020-2021 IHSAA Basketball Season, for Girls and Boys teams throughout the state, has been one unlike any other, one in which we all have had to navigate through COVID-19 pandemic. Crowd numbers have gradually increased in various venues throughout the season.

A great deal of credit goes to all school administrators, athletic administrators, school and event personnel, etc., for their efforts throughout the season.

The 2021 IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament has has brought forth Sectional Championships for 64 schools, split into 16 Regionals throughout the state.

The 2021 IHSAA Class 2A Southridge Regional in Huntingburg Memorial Gym began with the host Southridge Raiders taking on the Paoli Rams.

The Raiders are led by Indiana All-Star candidate Colson Montgomery (6’5” Senior Guard) (an Indiana University Baseball commit), while the Rams feature Brett Bosley (6’6” Senior Forward) (headed to Indiana State as a preferred walk-on).

The First Quarter ended with Southridge leading Paoli, 7-6. Colson Montgomery with all 7 points for the Raiders.

At Halftime, the Raiders led 14-13. Colson Montgomery with all 14 for the Raiders. Paoli Scoring: Isaac Cornett-McBride 6; Trey Rominger 4, Brett Bosley 3. I am really Impressed with the passing ability of Bosley.

At the end of the Third Quarter, Southridge had a 27-20 lead. A big play in this one was when Montgomery blocked a Bosley dunk attempt with just over 6:00remaining in the Third Quarter.

Southridge was able to hold off Paoli’s attempt at a Fourth Quarter comeback, and the Raiders emerged with a 43-35 victory to advance to the Regional Championship Game.

In addition to Montgomery, Southridge got key contributions from Senior Guards Carter Whitehead and Camden Gasser (Gasser headed to the University of Michigan to play baseball), and Senior Forward Sam Sermersheim.

Game Ball (Paoli): Brett Bosley. I was really impressed with Bosley’s all-around game, particularly his passing.

Game Ball (Southridge): Colson Montgomery continued to lead the Raiders, scoring 27 points.

Game Ball (Southridge): Colson Montgomery continues to carry the load for the Raiders, as he poured in 27 points.
