Boonville, Indiana – Wow! What a wild game at Bennett Field tonight.
Tonight’s game was headlined by two FBS-level recruits – one for each team – in Boonville Tailback Devin Mockobee (Class of 2021, committed to Navy) and Gibson Southern Quarterback Brady Allen (Class of 2022, committed to Purdue).
Each lived up to the billing, as Mockobee ran for 415 yards (and five touchdowns – runs of 45, 77, 97, 60, 9) on the night . FOUR. HUNDRED. FIFTEEN. YARDS. Allen was effective in his own right, tossing four touchdowns for the Titans.
That said, there were other intriguing storylines and players to watch that emerged from this one. I was very interested to see how the matchups in the trenches would play out, as the GS OL is led by Braden Tucker (Sr., 6’4”, 315), and the Boonville DL is led by Sr. Cameron Dorsey (4 Sacks on the season coming into tonight’s game).
Each proved to prove highly impactful in this one, as Tucker and the rest of the GS Offensive Line was able to help spring Tailback Owen Bryant for two touchdown runs (2, 59). Tucker also provided the GS Defensive Line with a spark in the 2nd Half.
Dorsey proved to be a dominant force as part of the Boonville Defensive Line, as I had him (unofficially) recording 3 Sacks in the First Half alone.
In a wild-and-crazy game, the Titans (2-2, 2-0 PAC) were able to hang on to win 43-35 and emerge victorious, picking up a key PAC victory in the process.
Next week: Gibson Southern will travel to Southridge to take on the 4-0 and top-five-ranked-in-Class 3A Raiders, while Boonville (2-2, 2-1 PAC) will host Linton-Stockton.
