The 2020 Indiana High School Football season got underway on Friday Night.  The Indiana Preps SWIN Game of the Week featured the Castle Knights traveling to Bundrant Stadium to take on the host Evansville North Huskies in a SIAC (and potential Sectional 15) matchup.

Aside from a Castle touchdown on an 89-yard run by # 29 – Peyton Guerzini (with 9:35 remaining in the 1st Quarter; PAT Good) on the first play from scrimmage from the Knights, this was a defensive struggle and field position battle throughout.  I came away quite impressed with the defense of each team.

Near the end of the first half, there was a lengthy lightning delay.  The game resumed, and Castle maintained a 7-0 lead until 1:42 remained in the first half, when # 5 – Ethan Brawdy found # 8 – Jaylonn Mitchell in the endzone for a 7-Yard TD Pass.  The PAT was blocked by Castle’s # 91 – Kenny Butler.  The Knights took a 7-6 lead into Halftime.

The only scoring of the 2nd Half came after the Huskies capitalized on a Castle turnover.  Ethan Brawdy ran for a 2-yard TD with 4:20 remaining.  The 2-point conversion was good as Brawdy connected with Mitchell.

The Huskies were able to hang on for the victory and move to 1-0 on the season.  North will host defending 4A Champion Evansville Memorial next week.  The Knights drop to 0-1 after the tough-luck defeat.  Castle will travel to the Reitz Bowl to take on Mater Dei next week.
