Indiana Preps | On The Line — IHSAA Boys Soccer Postseason
The final Indiana Soccer Coaches Association poll gives the postseason a cleaner starting point than any computer ranking can.
Not because it settles the state-title race. Because it shows how broad that race really is.
Castle enters October ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, Bloomington South is No. 2 and Fishers is No. 3. Guerin Catholic leads 2A. Blackhawk Christian leads 1A. The rest of the board stretches from Evansville to Fort Wayne, Indianapolis to Goshen, and several places in between.
Boys sectionals begin Tuesday and run through Saturday. Here are 20 teams worth knowing before the bracket starts deciding who stays alive.
CLASS 3A
1. Castle | No. 1
The Knights enter as the final No. 1 in Class 3A after finishing 13-2-1. Castle has balance, experience and enough depth to survive the one-goal matches that define October. The bigger point: Southern Indiana has a real title favorite, not just a contender.
2. Bloomington South | No. 2
Bloomington South finished 11-1-3 and has consistently shown it can handle strong competition. MaxPreps has the Panthers near the top of the statewide ratings entering the postseason. This is not a team trying to crash the conversation. It is already in it.
3. Fishers | No. 3
Fishers sits No. 3 after a 12-1-2 regular season. The Tigers have enough athleticism to play fast, but their real value is control. They have been one of the more consistent teams in central Indiana and now enter a tournament where consistency matters more than style points.
4. Goshen | No. 4
The RedHawks finish No. 4 in the coaches poll after going 13-3, and spent much of the year proving this was not just a hot start. Goshen is one of the best reminders that this is not an Indianapolis-only bracket.
5. Evansville North | No. 5
North finishes No. 5 and went 13-2-1. The Huskies are one of four Southern Indiana teams inside the final 3A top nine — which alone tells you what the southern side of the state tournament looks like this year.
6. Fort Wayne Carroll | No. 6
The Chargers went 11-3-2 and played one of the stronger schedules in northern Indiana. They have already been tested enough to know how quickly a match can swing against a good opponent. That experience travels well in sectionals.
7. Evansville Memorial | No. 7
Memorial finished 10-4-1 against one of the more demanding schedules in the state. Four losses are not a concern when most of them came against quality opponents. This is the kind of team that can look better in a tournament than it did in the standings.
8. Chesterton | No. 8
The Trojans enter at 13-2 and have been one of the more efficient teams in Northwest Indiana. They do not need much possession to create pressure and have shown enough defensively to stay in close matches.
9. Jasper | No. 9
The Wildcats finished 12-3-1 and give Southern Indiana another legitimate postseason team. Castle gets the headline. Jasper is one of the reasons the road through the south is not simple.
10. Zionsville | No. 10
The Eagles finished 9-5-1, but that record comes with one of the more difficult schedules in the state. MaxPreps had Zionsville among the strongest-strength-of-schedule teams in Indiana entering October. This is a dangerous postseason profile.
11. North Central | No. 11
The Panthers finished No. 11 in the final poll, but their overall body of work is stronger than that number suggests. North Central went 11-2-3 and remained near the top of MaxPreps’ statewide ratings for most of the fall. They may be the clearest example of why sectional placement matters more than ranking now.
12. Hamilton Southeastern | No. 12
The Royals finished 8-4-4 against one of the toughest schedules in Indiana. That record does not look dominant. The schedule does. In tournament soccer, familiarity with high-level matches can matter as much as regular-season momentum.
CLASS 2A
13. Guerin Catholic | No. 1
The Golden Eagles went 11-0-5 and enter the tournament unbeaten. MaxPreps has Guerin Catholic firmly among the top teams statewide regardless of class. That makes them more than a 2A favorite. They are one of the best teams in Indiana.
14. Mishawaka Marian | No. 2
The Knights finished 13-2 and have been one of the most reliable northern Indiana teams all year. They have enough experience to make a deep run and enough structure to turn close matches into comfortable ones.
15. Bishop Noll | No. 3
Northwest Indiana has multiple strong teams across classifications, and Bishop Noll is part of that group. The Warriors have been steady enough all season to enter October as a legitimate title threat rather than a sleeper.
16. Leo | No. 4
The Lions finished 12-3-1 and have enough athleticism to create problems in transition. They are also the kind of team that can make a bracket uncomfortable for a higher-ranked opponent because of pace and pressure.
17. Covenant Christian | No. 5
The Warriors went 11-2 and have been one of the more consistent Indianapolis-area teams outside 3A. They have enough offensive quality to make every match dangerous.
CLASS 1A
18. Blackhawk Christian | No. 1
Blackhawk finished the regular season 13-0-2 and is No. 1 in the latest MaxPreps statewide ratings regardless of classification. That is not normal for a 1A team. Blackhawk is not just trying to win its class. It has played like one of the best teams in Indiana, period.
19. Faith Christian | No. 2
The Eagles have been one of the most consistent small-school programs in the state and enter another postseason with real expectations. If Blackhawk is the headline in 1A, Faith is the team sitting closest behind.
20. Oldenburg Academy | No. 4
The Twisters have the kind of postseason profile that usually matters: experience, consistency and a history of playing meaningful October soccer. They belong on the short list of teams capable of surviving a deep 1A bracket.
The final poll gives Castle, Guerin Catholic and Blackhawk Christian the top line in their respective classes. It does not give any of them a clean path.
3A has real depth from Evansville to Fort Wayne. 2A has multiple teams capable of winning the whole thing. And 1A starts with a Blackhawk Christian team that has already played like one of the best programs in the state regardless of class.
The rankings are done. Now the bracket gets the final say.
