The Wolves of Michigan City prowl into Lafayette to look for some Bronchos in a week 2 battle.

When: 7:30 PM 8/29

Where: Jefferson High School ( Lafayette )

Tale of the tape, Michigan City: The Wolves pulverized Hanover Central last Friday night 31-0, with 103 air yards and 200 rushing yards from the offense. 4 Different players found their way into the endzone for Michigan City. The offense didn’t have to do a ton, however, as the defense forced a pair of fumbles and ran them both back to the house. 3 Interceptions from the defense also helped the cause. The Wovles lived in the backfield all night long with 1.5 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss.

Tale of the tape Lafayette Jefferson: The Bronchos traveled to perennial powerhouse Indianapolis Bishop Chatard last week and fell 35-28 to the regional champ. Junior QB Trysten Barrett was lighting up the scoreboard all night with 373 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns and interceptions. The Bronchos’ rushing attack was struggling to gain traction with 94 yards on 32 carries. Good for about 3.4 a carry, they did punch two into the endzone, however. 1 sack and 3 TFLs for the defense on the evening just weren’t enough to slow down the best team in 4A.

Coaches: Cody French, 10-12 in 3rd year at Michigan City. Pat Shanley, 76-23 in 10th year at Lafayette Jeff.

Coach Shanley had the following to say regarding the matchup, “We have great respect for Region football. We have played teams from the region for many years now, dating back to the years when we had our Week 0 scrimmage against Chesterton. The Region, specifically the DAC, plays a really physical and disciplined brand of football. For us, we feel that scheduling teams like this early on in the season is really going to help us grow into the team that we want to be later in the season. Have all of the respect in the world for Coach French and the job that he has done. Our series with Michigan City has been tight battles and games that have gone down to the wire. I would expect this game will be another good one. “

Rankings: The Bronchos are ranked 9th in 5A, while the Wolves find themselves unranked in 5A.

 All-time history: Lafayette Jeff, 2-1.
LAST MEETING: Lafayette Jeff, 17-13, Aug. 30, 2024.

Bottom Line: Jeff looks to get back on the horse this week vs the Michigan City Bulls.
