Dominic De Freitas capped his senior year with an impressive 8/14 on field goals, highlighted by a state-record 62-yard field goal, and an exceptional 40/41 on extra points. Over his high school career, De Freitas was a model of consistency, going 26/38 on field goals and 187/192 on extra points. His career-long field goals of 50, 55, 60, and 62 yards cement his legacy as one of the most reliable and powerful kickers in state history.
Offensive Player of the Year: JonAnthony Hall, Fishers
JonAnthony Hall delivered an outstanding senior season, recording 91 receptions for 1,423 yards and 12 touchdowns, while adding 104 rushing yards and three scores. The Stanford Cardinal recruit capped his high school career with 171 catches for 2,740 yards and 28 touchdowns, amassing 3,328 all-purpose yards. Hall’s versatility and playmaking ability solidified his status as one of the most dynamic offensive players in the state.
Defensive Player of the Year: Kimar Nelson, Fort Wayne Wayne
Kimar Nelson dominated on defense during his senior season, racking up 106 tackles, including 25 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks. His relentless playmaking ability led to key turnovers, with 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and a blocked punt. Nelson’s impact on the field was felt in every phase of the game, making him a force to be reckoned with on defense.
Player of the Year: Mark Zackery IV, Ben Davis
Notre Dame recruit Mark Zackery IV shined on both sides of the ball for the Ben Davis Giants, showcasing his exceptional talent during their 2023 6A state championship season. As a senior, Zackery recorded over 1,000 receiving yards on 58 catches with 12 touchdowns. Defensively, he was a standout with 65 tackles and 8 interceptions, 2 of which he returned for touchdowns. Always around the ball, Zackery’s career totals include nearly 2,000 receiving yards, 21 touchdowns, 140 tackles, 14 interceptions, and 4 defensive scores, cementing his legacy as one of the Giants’ all-time greats.
