A season ago, Dominic Garzolini showed just what he was capable of as a quarterback.
The South Vermillion signal caller threw for over 2,100 yards and a school record 29 touchdowns last year. This season, he has produced quite an encore, as he has the Wildcats a perfect 10-0 heading into the second round of the Class 2A Sectional 39 tournament at Linton-Stockton (8-2). Heading into the state tournament, Garzolini had thrown for 2,461 yards and 38 touchdowns and is a major reason why many feel the Wildcats can pick up a section crown and more this fall.
The 2025 pocket passer takes his accomplishments in stride, deferring the attention to his teammates.
“It feels great, but I didn’t do it by myself. My teammates and coaching staff are the reason I have been able to have a good year. I personally don’t care about any stats. I just care about whether or not the Wildcats are leading on the scoreboard at the end of the game,” the senior said.
One reason why there has been so much success this year for Garzolini and his teammates can be traced back to the chemistry they have on the field.
“I believe we have a very good team with great chemistry. A lot of us seniors have been playing together for multiple years. The main thing we have to do as a team is keep our head down, and I think we can make a run,” Garzolini said.
With a big road trip to Linton-Stockton standing in the way, Garzolini is optimistic the Wildcats can pick up a win and South Vermillion continues moving along. He said Linton-Stockton looks “very physical and tough on film.”
“It is going to take four quarters of Wildcat football. No matter who we are playing, we just need to play our game,” Garzolini said.
