As one of the top middle attackers in the Circle City Conference, Summer Fishel, a talented athlete from Roncalli High School, has what it takes to overcome adversity and make a difference in the lives of her teammates and coaches. After missing her entire junior season due to a knee injury, Fishel attributes her successful comeback to one key principle: perseverance. She reflects on the countless rehab sessions that have instilled in her the confidence needed to excel.

“I came to the realization that every moment on the field is a privilege and not something to take for granted,” Fishel told Justin Hartsough of Indiana Preps. “Looking back, I think about all the hours and effort I put into rehabbing my knee, as well as the support system that helped me through it. This motivates me every time I step onto the field, especially after missing my junior season.”

Fishel’s standout moments as a soccer player include helping Roncalli secure back-to-back sectional titles during her freshman and sophomore years.

“My favorite memory would have to be winning sectionals my freshman and sophomore years because I got to do it with my best friends, and it was an incredible achievement,” Fishel said.

Now a Saint Louis University commit, Fishel has registered 25 goals in 17 games this season, continuing to lead her team. With an 8-7-2 record, Fishel and the Roncalli Lady Royals know they have more work to do if they want to impress critics and go on a deep postseason run. Preparing for their first sectional match against 2-9 Indian Creek, Fishel understands what it will take to get her team on a hot streak in the state tournament.

“Preparing mentally and physically as a team is crucial. We’ve played a lot of games in a short period, so getting proper rest will be important leading into sectionals,” Fishel explained. “I also think regaining our sharpness on the ball will be a key factor. Personally, being able to contribute and lead my teammates to success will be imperative to our overall performance.”

Fishel credits her success to the confidence she has in herself and her abilities.

“For me, having confidence when I step on the field has always led to success,” she said. “Confidence in my preparation, my abilities, and my team all contribute. Reminding myself of this before each game helps me stay mentally engaged and disciplined.”

As she wraps up her final year of high school soccer, Fishel is determined to make every moment count—not just to help Roncalli win, but also to savor her last moments on the field with her teammates.

“I want to leave it all on the field and give my best in everything I do,” Fishel said. “No matter the outcome of sectionals or beyond, I want to compete with my best friends and have fun doing it.”

After a tough loss to New Palestine, the Roncalli Lady Royals are gearing up for their next challenge, facing a young Indian Creek team in the sectional semifinals. The match is set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Speedway High School. Come out and support the Royals!
