In Week 5, the Allen County Athletic Conference (ACAC) is set to deliver a marquee matchup as the 3-1 Adams Central Flying Jets travel to Monroeville to take on the undefeated 4-0 Heritage Patriots.
Adams Central, a perennial powerhouse, has made it to the state championship the last three years, but each time fell short against Indianapolis Lutheran. This season, the Flying Jets have moved up to Class 2A due to the IHSAA success factor, leaving behind their dominant run in 1A. Despite the change in classification, Adams Central remains a formidable force.
On the other side, the Heritage Patriots are riding high under new head coach Jeremy Hullinger. A Heritage graduate and former assistant coach, Hullinger stepped into the role after Casey Kolkman’s departure and has led his team to an impressive 4-0 start. A key player for the Patriots has been senior running back Nasir Martin, who is averaging a staggering 150 yards per game. Heritage also has a new signal caller in quarterback Eli Tigulis, who has been steering the offense effectively.
Adams Central has had the upper hand in this matchup for years, but with Heritage’s strong start and a new energy surrounding the program, this year’s contest could signal a shift in the ACAC. Will the Flying Jets continue their dominance, or will the Patriots finally break through? Friday night will reveal the answer in this thrilling ACAC showdown.
