On Sunday, roughly 70 football players showed up at Grand Park for an opportunity to join the Indiana Collective 7on7 team. A newly formed organization spearheaded by elite football development specialists Dre Muhammad and JC Boice. The day’s format included individual periods, routes on air, install, and a competition period. The last segment is where the top players in attendance are separated from the others.
A talented group of young wideouts was impressive and featured some players that will burst onto the high school scene this fall. Carroll High 2028 receiver Maddox Weil is a crafty route runner with really good hands. In 1-on-1s, he was unstoppable. In the 7on7 drills, he ran routes with precision, finding holes in the defense’s coverage. Weil has yet to play a varsity snap but has landed a P4 offer from the Miami Hurricanes along with a couple MAC opportunities. The young wideout is special and will only get better under the tutelage of Dre Muhammad.
Bloomington North 2028 receiver Javen Brooks is a name to know in the coming years. Brooks has a slot build and will continue to mature in his frame and get stronger and faster. He’s naturally a smooth route runner. Alex Scott an East Noble incoming freshman, was the surprise of the day for Indiana Preps. He already possesses some skills that should catapult him to Friday nights early. Other notable names at the wideout position for the 15U team include Blake Davis (Bloomington North), and Jayden Brown (Northrop).
On the defensive side for the 15U squad, it was Cathedral High 2028 defensive back Tim Onghetich who stood out with his ability to play press, off-man, reroute runners, and play through the ball consistently. The Irish have a potential star in the making on the defensive side of the ball. Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit High 2027 defensive back Karter Massy was also impressive.
Familiar faces and names trying out for the 18U team were no surprise when it came to putting their talents on display. Northrop High 2026 wideout Jerquaden Guilford is elite. He’s a national talent, and his ceiling has yet to be reached. Next up would be Guilford’s new teammate in 2026 Jamari Brown, who will be a matchup nightmare at the slot position this fall. Ben Davis High slot Jamil Stephens is another quick and shifty route runner, and once he stacks the defensive back, he’s at will to do whatever with his speed. Look for the Giants to get the ball in his hands this fall.
The quarterback race for this 18U squad will be tough and to be honest, whoever is not selected would start for any other 7on7 team in the country, let alone their own varsity teams. Warren Central might have jumped to the front of the conversation when it comes to 6A favorites with the addition of Jaydin Rivers. The Warriors boast one of the best offensive and defensive fronts in the state. What appears to have been missing the last few years, is now resolved with Rivers. The incoming junior is a big, strong quarterback with good velocity, field vision, and on-time delivery with the football. Not to be outdone, Carmel High 2026 quarterback Anthony Coellner went throw for throw and looked poised as a field general should be. He exudes confidence and has the arm to back it up. Lawrence Central 2026 quarterback Terry Walker III continues to impress us with each in-person evaluation. Another gunslinger with confidence. A name that is not as familiar but definitely turned heads on the day was Lakeland 2026 quarterback Brayden Holbrook. He is a player we will be paying close attention to this fall. The Miami Ohio RedHawks were the first to offer, but I expect that number to grow very soon.
With all of this talent on the offensive side, one would think there’s no way anyone on the defensive side could match up. Not so fast. Bishop Luers 2026 defensive back tandem Dameon Hogue and Daveon Surry will position the Knights to make another run at Lucas Oil Stadium. Hogue is a lengthy corner that will run stride for stride with almost anyone in the state, while Surry is a physical player, who breaks on the football in a timely fashion but is bringing a punch along with it. Carmel High ATH Isaac Nelson is a prospect that should garner major attention heading into his junior season. Nelson is 6’2 205-pounds and can flat-out run! He clocked a 10.8 in the 100m this spring. At the tryout, he played linebacker and he moved fluidly in his hips and can turn and run with anyone on the field. Lawrence Central 2026 defensive back Summers Davonte had a solid outing as well.
