Semi-State.  We are down to the “Final Four” schools in each class.  The 24 teams remaining throughout the state will play for 12 spots in the State Championship Games.

The Class 4A South Semi-State will feature the Mt. Vernon (Fortville) Marauders and the Evansville Reitz Memorial Tigers.  These teams last met in the 2019 Class 4A Semi-State, won by the Tigers, 28-3.

These teams have earned their right here with hard-fought Regional Championships.  The Marauders enter this one with a ton of momentum, riding a 12-game winning streak, highlighted by a 27-21 victory over Roncalli last week.  The Tigers, no strangers to Postseason success, nipped East Central, 17-14, on a last-second FG by Nico Brougham.

Mt. Vernon (Fortville) has an explosive offense, averaging just shy of 49 PPG on the season.  Sr. QB Gehrig Slunaker (2,579 yards passing, 30 TD Passes) leads the MV offense.  Sr. TB Keagan La Belle has rushed for over 1,300 yards (with 21 TD’s on the ground) this season.  Sr. TB Travon Hegler has rushed for over 700 yards (with 11 TD’s on the ground).  Sr. WR Ashden Gentry has over 1,000 yards receiving (and 11 TD’s) this season, averaging an eye-popping 25+ yards per reception.  Defensively, La Belle anchors the Marauders, and is the leading tackler.

Memorial is a team and program that is highly familiar with postseason success.  This season has been no different to this point.  The Tigers are anchored by a ferocious Defense (allowing an average of just over 11 PPG this season) and two Tailbacks (Sr., Ray Brodie: 1,159 yards rushing, 13 TD’s) and (Sr., Xavier Tyler: 745 yards rushing, 9 TD’s) on the offensive side of the ball.  The Memorial Defense, deep and talented, features 8 players with 45+ tackles on the season.  Sr. DL Aiden Farmer has 13 sacks on the season.

The explosive Mt. Vernon (Fortville) Offense.  The stout Memorial Defense.  Something will have to give in this one.  Can the Marauders use the victory over Roncalli to serve as a springboard to Indianapolis?  Will the Tigers’ seasoned, experienced team advance to Indianapolis yet again?  Which team will emerge victorious and earn a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium to play for the Class 4A State Championship?  Indiana Preps will be live at Enlow Field in Evansville to find out.
