2021-2022 Indiana Preps Hoops – Girls Basketball Preview
Though basketball never really stops, especially in the Hoosier State, the 2021-2022 season is officially underway, as Girls teams throughout the state started practice this week. Here are some teams to watch for this season:
Crown Point seeks its second consecutive State Championship, as the Bulldogs will lean heavily upon Seniors Lilly Stoddard and Jessica Carrothers. Franklin Community will look to build off its run to the Semi-State, as they return Sr. Kuryn Brunson, Soph. Lauren Klem, and Soph. Scarlett Kimbrell. Other teams to watch in 4A include Indianapolis North Central and Bedford North Lawrence.
Silver Creek, coming off a State Championship in 2021, will be led by Kynidi Striverson. South Bend Washington, a team that advanced to the State Championship Game in 2021, promises to be a major threat in 3A this season, led by Sr. Mila Reynolds, Jr. Amiyah Reynolds, and Frosh Kira Reynolds. Other teams to watch in 3A include Evansville Reitz Memorial (SIAC) and Washington (PAC).
Linton-Stockton has run roughshod over 2A the past two seasons, and has moved up to 3A as a result of the Success Factor. We are guaranteed a new 2A State Champion in 2022. Heading into the season, Class 2A seems to be a bit of a toss-up. Andrean, Triton Central, and Forest Park will each look to build on Sectional Championships in 2021, and Evansville Mater Dei always poses a threat, as well, with the SIAC schedule preparing the Wildcats for postseason play.
Class 1A will also have a new State Champion this year, as Loogootee and Pioneer have each moved up to 2A due to the Success Factor. Tecumseh returns quite a bit from its 2020-2021 team, one that produced a third consecutive Sectional Championship and advanced to its third consecutive Regional Championship Game. Which teams can rise up to challenge the Lady Braves? Jac-Cen-Del has had a long run of success. Can Greenwood Christian build on Semi-State runs in each of the last two seasons?
