If you needed to know more about these two teams, this was the game for you. The Eastside Blazers, ranked 8th in the Class 2A State polls, goes into Minnich Field and beats the 4th ranked team in 1A, the Adams Central Flying Jets, 28-14.

While the fans had to watch from the school parking lots due to COVID-19 restrictions in Adams County, that didn’t seem to affect the play for both teams, especially early on. On the first drive of the game, Laban Davis threw a dart in the air and connected to tight end Gavin Wallace with coverage, which he would put the Blazers on the board on his 10-yard TD reception. However, the Jets would fight back forcing two picks and recovered a fumble off a punt. Alex Currie’s great individual effort on his 25-yard TD run gave the Jets a 14-7 lead going into the 2nd quarter. But the Blazers would strike again after picking off a Ryan Black pass and Laban Davis scored with a 8-yard TD run.

Senior Lane Burns forced a fumble on Blake Heyerly, recovered the ball, and took it to the house to give the Blazers a 21-14 lead with 1:39 left in the half. From there on, the Blazers would never let that lead slip away as they would add another score thanks to Wade Miller’s TD reception in the third quarter. The Jets had a chance to get back in the game on a 1st and goal opportunity, but they were unable to put any points on the board.

Laban Davis finished the game throwing for 107 yards and 2 scores and ran for another 76 yards and a score. The Blazers defense was strong all night, especially after the first quarter, where they gave the Jets little room to run the football and forced the quarterback to make many tough throws, which he only converted one of them. The 2-0 Eastside Blazers travel to Ligonier to face 0-2 West Noble, while Adams Central will try to bounce back at home vs 0-2 Jay County.
