DeVonte Hughes blasted on to the scene as a top pass rusher in 2011 after leading the state of Indiana with 16 quarterback sacks during his junior campaign. This type of performance landed Hughes on the all-conference & all-state class 4a team. However, after speaking with DeVonte he clearly feels he has something to prove this upcoming season and how he is under the radar among college recruiters.

IndianaPreps: What are your goals for the 2012 season?
Hughes: Lead my team back to state.

IndianaPreps: How’s recruiting and who’s showing interest?
Hughes: Recruiting is going fine. I got my first offer from Ferris State and Boston College, UMASS, Indiana State are really interested.

IndianaPreps: What do you want to show or prove in 2012?
Hughes: That I can play OLB and repeat last’s year performance.

IndianaPreps: Do you feel underrated or over looked by recruiters?
Hughes: Yes. I want to prove that South Bend, Indiana has good football and ballers who can play D1. I feel I can play OLB in a 3-4 scheme at the next level.

The opposing offensive coordinators in the state have been put on notice. DeVonte Hughes has something to prove and will be a nightmare for quarterbacks in 2012.
